Welcome to The ACP Advocate,

Our first story today looks at the new budget that Congress passed a couple of weeks ago.  This bill means that the government is funded until October.  A lot of our funding priorities were included in the bill; money for the National Health Service Corps, funding to fight the opioid epidemic, for the CDC and NIH.  Check out the article for more information about what we'd still like to see done.

The second story this issue lets you know about an opportunity the College had several weeks ago.  Robert McLean, MD, FACP appeared on behalf of ACP in front of the House Ways and Means subcommittee on health at the first roundtable discussion of their Red Tape Relief initiative.  Dr. McLean presented ACP's ideas on what can be done about the administrative burdens that physicians face.  In the article we detail more of what he told the committee and what ACP is doing on the issue.

Finally, I hope to see many of you next week at ACP's Internal Medicine 2018 meeting in New Orleans.  In the next issue of the Advocate we'll update you on all of the policy and advocacy happenings of the week.
